2011 - 2012 King Eider Season Review

Alaskan Eider Outfitters 2011-2012 sea duck hunts were very successful and we are already looking forward to next season.  All of our hunters went home with at least 3 King Eiders and most were able to get their limit of 4.  Most hunters also took home a few Harlequin and Long-tailed ducks.  Capt. Moe and I would like to thank all of those who hunted with us and persevering through travel and weather issues.  Alaska sea duck hunting in January can be difficult, but we take the proper precautions and have the experience to put our hunters in position to get their King Eiders.

Alaskan Eider Outfitters success is the result of a team effort and well prepared hunters.  Our cook Michelle kept everyone fully fueled for the often bone chilling conditions.  Big thanks to Michelle for her excellent meals and ever present snacks, desserts and baked goods.  Capt. Moe and I would also like to give a big thanks to Guide Dustin.  Dustin’s vast knowledge from living on the island for over 30 years is invaluable. 

We are looking forward to the 2012 – 2013 season and will be limiting our hunts to five groups of six hunters.  Alaskan Eider Outfitters will always give 110% to produce King Eider hunts that are safe, legal and successful.  Contact us today to get your king!!

Great King Eider Hunting on the Bering Sea

More King Eider Hunting in Alaska:

The hunting has just been getting better for us in Alaska's last week of the duck season.  We ended up having our most successful day of the season during this week and again all of our hunters are going home with 3 or 4 King Eiders each.  Our hunters also had some excellent hunts for Harlequin and Long - tailed Ducks, with a few scoters and even a couple Pacific Common Eiders being added to the bag. 



We also had one lucky hunter shoot an extremely rare banded King Eider drake.  We reported the band online and found out that it had been banded 16 years earlier as an adult bird on St. Paul Island.  Here is a link to a story written about this unique trophy:

Alaska's St. Paul Island King Eiders and Snow Crab

Opilio or Snow Crab season is in full swing on Alaska’s Bering Sea. King Eider season also is in full swing and we are please to report that our hunters have been getting limits of them for their trophy collections. The winds let up some for these hunts and we were able to get the guys out in the boats on most days. We enjoyed some great hunts for other sea ducks including Harlequin, Long – tailed Ducks and a couple scoters.

On our final night with each group, we celebrate our hunt and hunters with a mouth-watering prime rib and all you can eat fresh Snow Crab feast. Big thanks to Michelle for all her efforts in preparing these exceptionally fine meals. We are pleased to be able to send our hunters home with trophy King Eiders and a full stomach. Capt. Moe and I would like to thank all of our hunters for being great guys to spend time with and for persevering through the tough Alaskan winter weather- bringing home those beautiful King Eiders and other species is worth all the wind and snow, that's for sure. One of our favorite parts about being waterfowl guides is having the opportunity to meet hunters from around the country and sharing our experiences and making new friends. Special thanks to guide Dustin for all his help and sharing his vast knowledge and experiences on St. Paul Island.

 

More King Eiders

Another week produced more great hunts on St. Paul for King Eiders and other sea ducks including Harlequin, Long-tailed ducks and even a few scoters.  All of our hunters took home at least 3 King Eiders with most taking 4, which is the seasonal limit for non-residents of Alaska.  We had a couple of days where the weather kept us from boating, but most days we were able to get the guys out in the boats and hunt over decoys.  We would like to thank our hunters from this week for being great guys to hunt with and especially Scott McWatty for sharing the exceptional pictures he took while hunting with us.  Scott's photos really capture the beauty amid the harshness of this remote and unique part of Alaska.  We would also like to thank all of the hunters for staying positive as they hunted through some tough conditions- their determination and perseverance were rewarded and they all took home beautiful trophy Kings.

Capt. Moe and I want to thank Dustin and Michelle for their dedication and teamwork in making our inaugural season a banner year for everyone and a special thanks to Michelle for providing us with excellent meals to keep everyone fueled up and ready to go.

Happy Hunters, First Week Review

Our early hunts started with a bang literally, 4 Mature drakes on the first Day.  Congrats to Matt, Gerald and Kevin for all getting at least 1 drake King Eider on their first day.  We continued to have great success the following days and everyone ended up getting at least 3 mature drakes and some even got four.  This group was also able to take home some real nice Harlequin, Long tailed ducks, and White - winged Scoter in addition to their King Eiders.  We had a couple tough weather days that limited us to some shore hunting, but most days we were able to get out in the boats and hunt over decoys.  Great group of guys to hunt with and everyone had a great time sea duck hunting in Alaska.  Big thanks to Capt. Moe, Dustin and Michelle for all their hard work and getting the job done.
